Cockle Train

The Cockle Train is one of South Australia's best kept secrets. It travels along the south coast of the Fleurieu Peninsula, across farmlands and coastal dunes. The cool blue waters of the Southern Ocean feature in a perfect scene of land, sea and sky, framed by the windows of the historic train.

From May until September, Southern Right Wales may be seen from the train in Encounter Bay.

"The Cockle Train" was named after the large cockles famous on the sandy surf beaches of Goolwa. This abundant shellfish is collected from the shallow water at the edge of the surf by anglers and is on of the common fishing baits used in South Australia.
